Octolens alternatives in 2026: 6 cheaper tools compared by what you actually pay for
· 9 min read

Octolens is a social listening tool built around one promise: every mention of your keywords across the internet, scored by AI, available through an API. It does that well, and its pricing page calls itself fair. For a company with a marketing team, it probably is. For a solo founder or a team of two, $159 a month billed yearly is a lot to spend on finding conversations, and much of what the plan includes goes unused. This guide breaks down what the Octolens price pays for, then compares 6 cheaper tools by the same parts, with prices I checked on each company's own site on October 20, 2026.
A disclosure first: I build Ownfeed, which is one of the 6 alternatives. To keep that from bending the comparison, the tools are sorted by entry price, Ownfeed gets the same kind of section as the others, and I say plainly where Octolens is better, including refresh speed.
What Octolens costs
Octolens shows two self-serve plans and a custom Enterprise plan. Table 1 lists what each includes, and Figure 2 is the pricing page itself. Both public prices are monthly equivalents of a yearly bill. The page has a monthly toggle and says yearly billing saves up to 20 percent, but on October 20, 2026 it did not show what monthly billing costs, so I have not guessed it here. In practice, the cheapest way in that I can confirm is $1,908 paid for a year.

| Item | Pro | Scale | Enterprise |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price (USD per month, billed yearly) | 159 | 499 | Custom |
| Mentions per month | 15,000 | 50,000 | Unlimited |
| Keywords included | 10 | 40 | Unlimited |
| Extra keyword (USD per month) | 10 | 5 | Custom |
| Refresh | Hourly | Real-time | Real-time |
| Team seats | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Data history | 2 years | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| API, webhooks and MCP | Included | Included | Included |
| Extra sources | None | Podcasts, newsletters, news, web | Same as Scale |
Pro covers Reddit, X, LinkedIn, Bluesky, YouTube, TikTok, Hacker News, GitHub, Stack Overflow, DEV, and review sites such as Trustpilot, the App Store and Google Play. There is a 7-day trial with no card, which the FAQ says includes Pro features and up to 5,000 mentions. Mentions over the quota cost $0.013 each on Pro and $0.01 on Scale, and you can set a monthly spending cap.
What makes it expensive
The price is not arbitrary. It pays for four things, and whether Octolens is worth it depends on how many of them you need.
- Platform count. Pro watches 10 platforms plus review sites. Most cheaper tools watch one to four. If your customers only talk on Reddit, you pay for nine platforms you never read.
- Refresh speed. Pro checks hourly and Scale in real time. That matters for support teams and brand crises. For finding someone who asked for a tool yesterday, a daily check is usually enough.
- Seats. Every plan has unlimited team seats. A team of ten gets a lot of value from that. A team of one gets none.
- Data access. API, webhooks and an MCP server are on every plan, and Octolens points out that many competitors keep data access for expensive enterprise contracts. If you do not plan to pipe mentions into your own systems, this is another part you pay for and leave unused.
What Pro is light on is keywords. Ten keywords for $159 is $15.90 per keyword a month, and each extra keyword is another $10. Figure 3 divides each plan's price by the keywords or filters it includes. Octolens is the most expensive per slot of any tool here, while F5Bot Gold is $0.25. A Syften filter can hold several terms, so its numbers flatter Syften a little, and the comparison ignores what each slot covers. It still shows the trade: Octolens charges for breadth and speed, not for the number of things you can watch.

The yearly billing matters as much as the monthly figure. Figure 4 shows what the first year costs on the cheapest way to pay that each site shows. Octolens Pro is $1,908, about twice BuzzAbout's yearly Starter plan and five times Syften, Ownfeed or RedShip paid monthly. With a monthly tool you can stop after one month if it does not work. With a yearly bill you find out after you have paid.

The alternatives at a glance
Table 2 compares the 6 alternatives on the same four parts: platforms, refresh, seats and keyword limits. Figure 5 shows platform coverage side by side with Octolens, and the hero chart at the top, Figure 1, compares the entry prices. I left out tools that cost more than Octolens and tools whose prices I could not read on their own site.
| Tool | Entry price (USD per month) | Platforms in the plan | Refresh | Seats | Watch limit |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| F5Bot | 9.99 (free plan too) | Reddit, Hacker News, Lobsters | Every few minutes | Not stated | 20 keywords (Gold: 200) |
| RedShip | 29 | Daily, every morning | 1 (Company: 3) | 1 product, 10 keywords | |
| Subreddit Signals | 29 (24 billed yearly) | Continuous, no interval given | Not stated | 1 brand, 10 subreddits | |
| Syften | 29.95 | Reddit, Hacker News, forums, web; X and YouTube as add-ons | Reddit target under 1 minute | Not stated | 3 filters, 100 results a day |
| Ownfeed | 39 (3 months: 89) | Reddit, X, Bluesky, Hacker News | Daily | 1 login | 1 product, search words written for you |
| BuzzAbout | 98 (980 billed yearly) | Reddit, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook | Not stated | 1 (Pro: 3) | 2,000 credits, 1 listening agent |
| Octolens | 159 (billed yearly) | 10 platforms plus review sites | Hourly (Scale: real-time) | Unlimited | 10 keywords, 15,000 mentions |

Figure 5 makes the split clear. Only Octolens covers all seven major platforms. BuzzAbout is the closest on breadth and skips Hacker News and Bluesky. Ownfeed is the only cheap option that includes both X and Bluesky in the base price. Two of the six watch Reddit alone.
F5Bot
F5Bot is the cheapest way to keep the keyword-alert part of Octolens. It checks Reddit, Hacker News and Lobsters every few minutes and emails you matches, instantly, batched or as a daily digest. The free plan needs no card. Silver at $9.99 a month gives 20 keywords, advanced filtering and full post text. Gold at $49.99 gives 200 keywords, RSS and JSON feeds, AI filtering, and Slack and Discord alerts. There is no X, LinkedIn or Bluesky, and every match is sent, so expect to sort the results yourself. Figure 6 shows its homepage.

RedShip
RedShip is Reddit only, and it says so. It checks Reddit every morning for threads where people ask for what you sell, scores them, and also tracks competitor mentions daily and Reddit threads that rank on Google weekly. Founder is $29 a month for 1 product, 10 keywords, 3 competitors and 1 seat. Company is $49 a month for 3 products, 30 keywords, 10 competitors and 3 seats. It advertises quarterly and yearly discounts but does not show the discounted prices. If Reddit is where your buyers are, it covers the lead side of Octolens for a fraction of the cost. Figure 7 shows its homepage.

Subreddit Signals
Subreddit Signals sorts posts by buyer intent within subreddits you choose. Starter is $29 a month, or $24 a month billed yearly, for 1 brand and up to 10 subreddits. Pro is $59 a month, or $49.17 billed yearly, for up to 5 brands and 25 subreddits. It describes monitoring as continuous without giving an interval. Both plans have a 14-day trial that needs a card. The pricing page contradicts itself on whether Pro has unlimited subreddits, so check before relying on that. Figure 8 shows its pricing page.

Syften
Syften is the closest to Octolens in spirit: a keyword monitor across many communities, with filters you tune yourself. It covers Reddit, Hacker News, Indie Hackers, Stack Exchange, GitHub, forums, Slack communities, mailing lists, podcasts and the open web. Its FAQ gives a target delay under 1 minute for Reddit and at most 15 minutes for X, which is faster than Octolens Pro's hourly refresh. Entry is $29.95 a month with 3 filters and 100 results a day. Standard is $49.95 with 20 filters, AI filtering and Slack. PRO is $119.95 with 100 filters, webhooks and MCP. X is a $40 a month add-on and YouTube $20, both on Standard and above. All plans have a 14-day trial with no card. Figure 9 shows its homepage.

Syften Standard with the X add-on comes to $89.95 a month, billed monthly. That gets you Reddit, Hacker News, X and a long list of smaller communities, with fast alerts and 20 filters, for less than Octolens Pro and without a yearly commitment. You give up LinkedIn, TikTok, Bluesky, unlimited seats and the review sites.
Ownfeed
Ownfeed is the tool I build, and it does a narrower job than Octolens. You paste your product URL, it reads the product page, and once a day it searches public posts on Reddit, X, Bluesky and Hacker News. AI keeps only the posts where your product would help, such as someone describing the problem it solves or asking for a tool like it, and puts them in one feed (Figure 10). You do not write keywords yourself. You read the feed, save posts, and reply in your own words. It never posts for you and never connects to your social accounts.

Pricing: a $1 trial for 1 day that becomes $39 a month unless you cancel first, or $89 every 3 months. Each plan covers 1 product and 1 login. What it does not do, compared with Octolens: it refreshes daily, not hourly, so it is no use for catching a complaint within the hour. It has no team seats, no API, no LinkedIn, TikTok or review sites, and no brand-mention dashboard. If you need any of those, Octolens or Syften is the better fit.
BuzzAbout
BuzzAbout covers the most social networks after Octolens, but it is a research tool more than an alert feed. Its AI listening agents work across Reddit, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, and plans are sold on credits. Starter is $98 a month or $980 a year, with 2,000 credits, 1 listening agent and 1 seat. Pro is $178 a month with 5,000 credits, 3 agents and 3 seats. Business is $450 with 20,000 credits and 5 seats. Monthly plans start with a $1 one-day trial. The pricing page does not say how often the agents refresh. Figure 11 shows its pricing page.

Trials before you commit
Because Octolens bills yearly, the trial is where you decide. Table 3 lists what each tool lets you try first. Octolens and Syften both give trials without a card, so the cheapest test is to run them side by side on the same keywords for a week.
| Tool | Free plan | Trial |
|---|---|---|
| F5Bot | Yes | Not needed |
| RedShip | No | Not confirmed |
| Subreddit Signals | No | 14 days, card required |
| Syften | No | 14 days, no card |
| Ownfeed | No | 1 day for 1 USD, then 39 USD a month unless canceled |
| BuzzAbout | No | 1 day for 1 USD on monthly plans |
| Octolens | No | 7 days, no card, up to 5,000 mentions |
How to choose
- Stay on Octolens if you are a team, need LinkedIn, TikTok or review sites, want alerts within the hour, or plan to use the API. Few tools cover that combination, and none of the cheaper ones here do.
- Count the platforms your customers actually use. If it is only Reddit, RedShip or Subreddit Signals at $29 does the lead-finding part. If it is Reddit and Hacker News, F5Bot may be enough.
- If you need X too, compare Syften Standard with the X add-on at $89.95 against Ownfeed at $39. Syften is faster and you tune the filters. Ownfeed is daily and picks the posts for you, and adds Bluesky.
- Decide whether you want mentions or customers. Brand monitoring means every mention of your name. Finding customers means posts from people with the problem, who usually do not know your name yet. Tools built for one do the other less well.
- Test against posts you already know. Run each trial on searches that once led to a real conversation and see which tool finds them.

FAQ
How much does Octolens cost?
On October 20, 2026, Octolens Pro was $159 a month and Scale $499 a month, both billed yearly, plus a custom Enterprise plan. That makes the cheapest confirmed entry $1,908 for a year. The site mentions monthly billing but does not show its price.
Does Octolens have a free plan?
No. It has a 7-day trial with no card, which includes Pro features and up to 5,000 mentions. F5Bot is the only tool in this guide with a plan that stays free.
What is the cheapest Octolens alternative?
F5Bot is free, with paid plans at $9.99 and $49.99 a month, but covers only Reddit, Hacker News and Lobsters. RedShip and Subreddit Signals start at $29 a month for Reddit. Syften starts at $29.95 and Ownfeed at $39 a month.
Which alternative covers the most platforms?
BuzzAbout, with Reddit, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, from $98 a month. Syften covers many smaller communities and adds X and YouTube as paid add-ons. Ownfeed covers Reddit, X, Bluesky and Hacker News.
Is any alternative faster than Octolens?
Octolens Pro refreshes hourly and Scale in real time. Syften's FAQ gives a target delay under 1 minute for Reddit and at most 15 minutes for X, and F5Bot checks every few minutes. RedShip and Ownfeed check once a day.
When is Octolens worth the price?
When a team needs many platforms in one place, alerts within the hour, unlimited seats, or API and webhook access. For one person watching one or two platforms, most of what the plan includes goes unused.
Method and limits
- Prices, plan limits, refresh speeds and seat counts come from each company's own website, read on October 20, 2026. Where a page did not show a value, it is marked as not stated rather than taken from a third-party site. Prices change, so check before you buy.
- Octolens shows only monthly equivalents of yearly billing. Its monthly-billing price is left out because the page does not show it.
- Price per keyword divides the plan price by the keywords or filters it includes. Syften filters and Octolens keywords are not identical units, and the figure ignores how many platforms each slot covers.
- First-year cost uses the cheapest billing period each site shows a price for, before any discount whose amount is not shown.
- Platform coverage is what each plan lists. Platforms that appear only in a FAQ are not counted.
- I did not test result quality side by side. This guide compares prices, limits and stated features, not how many useful posts each tool finds.
- Conflict of interest: I build and sell Ownfeed, one of the 6 alternatives. No other tool paid for or reviewed this guide, and there are no affiliate links.
