Reddit keyword monitoring tools in 2026: 8 compared for startups
By Shun, founder of Ownfeed · Updated · Prices checked · 9 min read

The main Reddit keyword monitoring tools for startups are F5Bot, KWatch.io, RedShip, Subreddit Signals, Syften, Ownfeed, Awario and Brand24. Prices run from free to $249 a month, and the main difference is how each one keeps irrelevant posts out of your inbox. All prices were read from each company's own website on November 1, 2026.
A disclosure first: I build Ownfeed, one of the tools below. To keep that from bending the comparison, the tools are sorted by their cheapest paid monthly plan, and every section says who the tool is not for.
What a Reddit monitoring tool has to do
Reddit has no built-in alert for a keyword across all communities, and the GummySearch research tool closed on November 30, 2025. A monitoring tool fills that gap by watching new posts and comments for your words and notifying you. Three things separate a useful one from an inbox you stop reading: how fast it tells you, whether it can tell a buyer from a keyword match, and what it costs per month for the number of keywords you really need.
Table 1 compares price, coverage and how each tool handles noise. Table 2 lists the Reddit-specific limits and trial terms. Figure 1 shows the entry prices as bars.
| Tool | Cheapest paid plan (USD per month) | Other platforms | How it cuts noise |
|---|---|---|---|
| F5Bot Silver | 12.99 | Hacker News, Lobsters | Excluded words; AI from Gold |
| KWatch.io Essential | 19 | Hacker News, X, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn | Filtering and AI analysis |
| RedShip | 29 | None | Keywords plus a morning shortlist |
| Subreddit Signals | 29 | None | Buyer intent classification |
| Syften Entry | 29.95 | Hacker News, Bluesky and more; no X on Entry | Query syntax; AI from Standard |
| Ownfeed | 39 | X, Bluesky, Hacker News | AI keeps posts where your product helps |
| Awario Starter | 49 | X and other social sites | Boolean search |
| Brand24 Individual | 249 | X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and more | AI sentiment analysis |
F5Bot: free and fast on the paid plan
F5Bot emails you when a keyword appears on Reddit, Hacker News or Lobsters. The Free plan allows 5 keywords and 20 alerts a day, with alerts up to 2 hours late, for personal use. Silver is $12.99 a month for 20 keywords, alerts within 5 minutes and keyword filtering. Gold is $49.99 and adds AI filtering and instant delivery.
Not for you if you want the tool to judge intent on its own below Gold, or if you need a company licence on the cheapest paid plan, because Silver is for personal, non-commercial use.
KWatch.io: Reddit plus a few X keywords
KWatch.io offers 2 Reddit keyword alerts on its free plan, and 20 on Essential at $19 a month, alongside 20 for Hacker News and a few for X, YouTube, Facebook and LinkedIn. Essential includes filtering, saved results and AI analysis. Business at $79 allows 100 Reddit alerts and adds the API, webhooks, Slack and bulk keyword import.
Not for you if you need hundreds of Reddit keywords on a small budget, because the 100-alert tier is the $79 plan.
RedShip: a morning list of Reddit threads
RedShip checks Reddit every morning and puts the conversations it considers worth your time in your inbox. It matches every new post against your keywords and your brand, and looks at the whole of Reddit rather than a short list of subreddits. The Founder plan is $29 a month for 1 product, 10 custom keywords and 3 competitors. It also tracks Reddit threads that rank on Google.
Not for you if you need alerts within minutes, because it runs once a day, or if you also want Hacker News or X.
Subreddit Signals: pick the subreddits, get intent labels
Subreddit Signals monitors up to 10 subreddits on its $29 a month plan and classifies each post by buyer intent. It adds a comment builder with voice profiles and an engagement queue. The $59 Pro plan covers 5 brands and 25 subreddits. Both start with a 14-day trial that needs a card.
Not for you if the right subreddits are not yet known to you, because it watches the communities you select, not all of Reddit.
Syften: precise search filters
Syften lets you write search filters with its own syntax and watches Reddit, Hacker News, Bluesky, forums and many other communities. Entry is $29.95 a month with 3 community filters and 100 results a day, and Standard at $49.95 adds AI filtering, 20 community filters and 5 web filters. X is a $40 a month add-on on Standard or above. The trial is 14 days without a card.
Not for you if you want to avoid writing and tuning filters. It gives you control, and the work that comes with it.
Ownfeed: start from the product page
Ownfeed is the tool I build. Instead of keywords you paste your product URL, and every day it searches public posts on Reddit, X, Bluesky and Hacker News. AI keeps only posts where your product would help, such as someone describing a problem or asking for a tool. You read the feed and reply in your own words. It never posts for you. The price is $1 for a 1-day trial, then $39 a month, or $89 every 3 months.
Not for you if you track a brand name or want to write exact keyword queries, or need alerts within minutes. It updates daily and looks for people who need your product, not for a given word.
Awario: brand monitoring with Reddit included
Awario is a social listening tool, with its own page on Reddit monitoring. Starter costs $49 a month on monthly billing, or $29 a month billed yearly, with 3 topics, unlimited keywords per topic, 30,000 mentions a month and Boolean search. The free trial needs no card.
Not for you if you want the tool to rank posts by buying intent. It finds mentions and reports on them.
Brand24: the enterprise end
Brand24 monitors X, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, LinkedIn, news, blogs and more. The Individual plan is $249 a month on monthly billing ($199 a month billed yearly) for 3 keywords, 2,000 mentions a month and updates every 12 hours, with AI sentiment analysis. The Team plan at $349 updates every hour. It has a 14-day free trial.
Not for you if you are an early startup. Three keywords at $249 a month is priced for brand and PR teams.
| Tool | Reddit limit on that plan | Free trial or free plan | Update speed stated |
|---|---|---|---|
| F5Bot Silver | 20 keywords | Free plan | Within 5 minutes |
| KWatch.io Essential | 20 keyword alerts | Free plan | Not stated on the pricing page |
| RedShip | 10 keywords | 7-day pass, $12 one time | Every morning |
| Subreddit Signals | 10 subreddits | 14 days, card needed | Continuous monitoring |
| Syften Entry | 3 community filters | 14 days, no card | Not stated on the pricing page |
| Ownfeed | Your product URL | 1 dollar, 1 day | Daily |
| Awario Starter | 3 topics | Free trial, no card | Not stated on the pricing page |
| Brand24 Individual | 3 keywords | 14 days | Every 12 hours |
How to choose for a startup
- Start with F5Bot Free for your brand name and your competitors. It costs nothing, and it shows how many alerts you get per week.
- If the inbox fills with posts that only share a word, you need a tool that judges intent. Compare KWatch.io, Subreddit Signals and Ownfeed on a free trial for a week each.
- If you know which subreddits your customers use, Subreddit Signals fits. If you do not, tools that search all of Reddit such as RedShip, F5Bot or Ownfeed fit better.
- Do not pay for a brand-monitoring plan to find customers. Awario and Brand24 are built for mention tracking.
- Keep replies in your own hands. Reddit communities remove promotional comments, so the tool should find the thread and you should write the answer.
Once you have the alerts, the guide to finding customers on Reddit covers how to reply without getting removed. The F5Bot alternatives guide goes deeper on the free end of this list.
FAQ
What is the best Reddit keyword monitoring tool for startups?
It depends on the problem. F5Bot is the cheapest, free for 5 keywords and $12.99 a month for 20 with alerts within 5 minutes. For intent labels, Subreddit Signals ($29) and Ownfeed ($39) classify posts with AI. For precise queries, Syften ($29.95). Prices were checked on November 1, 2026.
Is there a free Reddit keyword monitoring tool?
Yes. F5Bot's Free plan covers Reddit, Hacker News and Lobsters with 5 keywords, for personal use. KWatch.io's free plan gives 2 Reddit keyword alerts and 2 for Hacker News.
How do I get fewer irrelevant Reddit alerts?
Replace common words with phrases people use when they have the problem, and remove keywords that sent nothing useful. Then choose a tool that filters: excluded words on F5Bot Silver, query syntax on Syften, or AI classification on KWatch.io, Subreddit Signals and Ownfeed.
Can I monitor Reddit and X with the same tool?
Yes. KWatch.io, Syften with its X add-on, Ownfeed, Awario and Brand24 list both. RedShip and Subreddit Signals cover Reddit only, and F5Bot adds Hacker News and Lobsters.
How fast do Reddit monitoring alerts arrive?
F5Bot Silver says within 5 minutes and its Free plan up to 2 hours. RedShip checks every morning, Ownfeed updates daily, and Brand24's Individual plan updates every 12 hours. Other tools do not state a speed on their pricing pages.
Method and limits
- All prices and features come from each company's own website, read on November 1, 2026. Where a page did not show something, it is left out rather than taken from a third-party site. Prices change, so check before you buy.
- Tools were chosen from earlier research on Reddit and social monitoring tools, limited to tools with a visible price. The list is not exhaustive. Reddit-only research tools without alerts are left out.
- I did not run a side-by-side test of result quality or alert speed. This guide compares prices, limits and stated features.
- Conflict of interest: I build and sell Ownfeed, one of the tools compared. No tool paid for or reviewed this guide, and there are no affiliate links.
